Message from the President......
It is hard to believe that Green Country Garden Club is 8 years old. How time flies when you are having fun! We have accomplished a lot and have a lot to be proud of. We continue to obsess on Learning about Gardening and it is amazing how people have grown in their knowledge of Gardening. We have three strong study Groups. Horticulture our oldest group is still going strong. A-Z regrouped a couple of years ago when two groups combined and it has grown by leaps and bounds and is very active. The Craft group was struggling until a year ago they restructured and now meet in homes or a church and are making many fun crafts.

Our 2008 Tour with Sheryl Travis and Karen Sanford in charge was our biggest money maker so far. Laurenda Walker stepped up to take charge in 2009. I’m sure this year’s tour will be another winner. This year’s Tour will be May 30 and 31. Keep these dates on your calendar cause we need every member to be on track to work one or both of those days. This is our biggest money maker for the Club.

Some of our groups have started seeds and plan on potting up plants early this year to sell at our Plant sale Saturday May 2nd. Charlotte Bowman will head up this event again and she will need all our help. Karen and Charlotte traveled to Norman to OU’s green houses to collect plant starts from Cal Lempke to sell at the plant sale. This event allows the study groups to make money as well as the club and is well attended by the whole community.

We had a fun trip to the OU Campus to tour the Green Houses in Oct. of 2008 and visit some museums. Next day we visited the Botanical Gardens and Brick Town. We are looking at visiting Garvan Garden in Hot Springs, AR. In the Fall

Our idea to involve the study groups in our Jo Allyn Lowe Garden Project by scheduling monthly work Saturdays with the study groups in charge has proven to be a success. The Fall Mulch Day was well attended and the Garden got mulched heavily which should make our work in the garden easier this coming spring and summer. Knock-Out Rose Company is donating over 50 roses for our Rose Corner in the Park Garden in March. The whole Club will be planting and caring for them.

I want to thank each and every one of you who attends the meetings and works hard to keep this wonderful club going. We have such a great group of members that steps up to the plate when there is a need for help, and that makes my job so much easier. I can’t express how proud I am to be your President. We continue to ?Have Fun While Learning about Gardening? which has been our motto since we organized in 2001. I encourage all of you to jump in and get involved. If you are sitting back and not participating you are missing out on a lot of fun with a lot of really nice people. I still believe that Green Country Garden Club attracts the friendliest, nicest and most energetic people in Bartlesville......GET INVOLVED!!!

Your President,
Karen Moon
