Club Information

Green Country Garden Club was formed June 2001, when two clubs merged. Our Concept is one Club, with several Study Groups. A Board of Directors oversees the general direction of The Club. Officers consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and the Chairperson from each Study Group. The Boards responsibility is to assist The Groups and handle routine business so The Groups can attend to their studies. The dues are now $10.00 annually.

Currently there are 3 Study Groups. As a member of The Club, we can attend any or all Study Groups. Gardening A-Z meets the 2nd Sunday at 2:00pm. This group studies all areas of horticulture, flowers, vegetables, fruits, nuts and herbs.

The Horticulture Study Group meets the 3rd Monday at 7:00pm. They study all facets of gardening, birds and butterflies. Garden Crafts meet the 1st Monday at 7:00pm In homes. This group makes and sells garden related items.

Green Country is dedicated to Learning about Gardening and sharing our knowledge with Beginner Gardeners. When there is enough interest, we offer a six-session course called Gardening 101. This Course is patterned after the Master Gardener Course from OSU and is taught by Master Gardeners and Horticulturists. Classes consist of learning about soil, flower identification, planting, watering, lawn care, exposures, zones, pesticides, organic pest control, trees, shrubs. Paid Members pay $5.00 for supplies. New Members pay $20.00 for supplies and dues to take the class. From time to time short-term classes are held when there is interest in a subject.

Green Country members are very active in our “Beautifying Our Community” program. We work with the city of Bartlesville to plant and maintain the “Welcome to Bartlesville” signs at the South and North entrances to Bartlesville. When the City erects the East and West signs, Green Country will plant and maintain them as well. We take great pride in our large Garden Plot on the Pathfinder Parkway East of the Lake in JoAllyn Lowe Park. With help from donations from the community and fund-raisers our 5 year old Garden is a real jewel for the community to enjoy. Club members work together to plant and maintain these gardening projects.

To fund our many projects, Green Country has fund-raisers during the year. This includes a spring plant sale. The Club has a benefactor who donated close to 2,000 beautiful collector’s quality Day Lilies that we offer for sale at plant sales and Heart of Town. We have over 100 different varieties with every color in the rainbow. Another fundraising event is our Garden Tour. All our members pitch in to take tickets and help at each home on the tour.

Green Country not only Learns and Works Together, we have lots of Fun Together! Each Study Group is made up of friendly, fun loving people that love to have parties during the year and on Holidays. The Club has a Spring get together in March to kick-off the New Club Year. In June we have a big Bar-B-Que for Homeowners on the tour and Club Members who worked during the Tour. In the Fall is a competitive Chili cook-off with prize money to the winners. Study groups have parties also from time to time. We take one field trip each year with the Club contributing some of our money we have made to reduce the price to Club Members.

In 7 years we have grown from a hand full of people to a Club with over 115 Members. As we grow, we strive to learn and make progress as we serve our community…. Our reward is having a good time with people who have become our friends. If you are interested in joining us, call the Moons at 333-2299 for information.
